Overview

The City of Thousand Oaks (City) fast-tracked this high-profile streetscape project at the City’s Civic Center to set the tone for the redevelopment along Thousand Oaks Boulevard corridor, a major City commercial/business zone. This $3.5M project focused on the Civic Arts Plaza, anchoring the entire corridor with contemporary streetscape furnishings, landscaping, median, and pedestrian improvements. The project offers a pedestrian-friendly environment and accommodates all modes of transportation (i.e. complete street).

The improvements included overhead gateway structures at Erbes Road and Conejo School Road, new pedestrian lighting, treated pavement, and accent trees and other landscape features. Sidewalk curb extensions and called bulb-outs at street corners offer increased safety for pedestrians crossing the street. Landscaped street medians enhance the corridor.

As part of the Thousand Oaks Boulevard Streetscape Improvement, Conejo School Road and Willow Lane Sidewalk and Bike Lane project, and Los Feliz Drive Sidewalk Phase II project, MNS designed the replacement of the aging water infrastructure along Thousand Oaks Boulevard, Willow Lane, Conejo School Road, and Los Feliz Drive and new sanitary sewer line on Thousand Oaks Boulevard. This project removed and replaced 160 linear feet of an existing 4-inch water main with a new 10-inch pipe; abandoned and replaced 240 linear feet of existing 6-inch water main with a new 10-inch pipe; removed and replaced 60 linear feet of existing 10-inch water main with a new 10-inch pipe; and removed and replaced 10 service laterals and corresponding water meters, 11 main valves, and three fire hydrants.

MNS provided engineering design and support services.
