The American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) has awarded MNS Engineers, Inc. a Merit Award for the Ranchero Road Interchange at I-15, in the 2016 Engineering Excellence Awards. This project was submitted under the Special Projects/Program and Construction Management category. The awards recognize private sector firms for projects that demonstrate an exceptional degree of innovation, complexity, achievement, and value.
This project, a $34M investment into the High Desert region, offers another east/west connection for thousands of San Bernardino County commuters. Sixteen months into the project, a potentially disastrous fire occurred, engulfing the bridge falsework ready for the concrete pour. The team’s swift response to the emergency, skillful coordination to quickly open the highway to the public, and unique methods to evaluate existing structural elements and reconstruct the bridge in a timely manner were instrumental in completing the project to meet the needs of the community. Most importantly, the often-times difficult process of interrupting communities and traffic flow in the best of times, let alone in times of emergencies, was mitigated successfully by the hard work and dedicated efforts of the team collaborating together.
The completed project is a testament to what can be achieved by many individuals working together for a common goal. This new interchange has helped increase the quality of life for those living in Hesperia and the entire High Desert, relieving traffic congestion and improving motorist safety and safety response times by improving mobility and efficiency.
