Congratulations to the County of San Joaquin’s Improve McHenry project as the California Transportation Foundation’s (CTF) Local Street Project of the Year Award Winner! This project significantly alleviated motorists’ frustrations by literally and figuratively clearing the air along one of the busiest and most essential routes between San Joaquin County and Stanislaus County. The McHenry Avenue Corridor Improvements included replacing two bridges, widening the roadway to include a two-way left turn lane, and signalizing the McHenry Avenue/River Road intersection. Using a robust public outreach strategy focused on digital technology and the ingenuity of its project team, the project was completed 6 months ahead of schedule and over $1 million under budget.
“The project was successful because the owner, the contractor and the construction management team knew from the beginning that working together on solutions for a successful outcome is not a cliché but a reality when executing complex transportation projects.” Mauricio Rivera, MNS Resident Engineer
