Congratulations to the City of Goleta and #MNSTransportation for winning the APWA Central Coast Project of the Year Award and ASCE Santa Barbara-Ventura Project of the Year Award! The Old Town Sidewalk Improvements Project improved the safety and livability for residents in one of the area’s most disadvantaged communities – Old Town Goleta. The work included constructing sidewalks on at least one side of each street, for several residential streets in the neighborhood north of Hollister Avenue between South Fairview Avenue and Mallard Avenue as well as on Pine Avenue south of Hollister Avenue. The new sidewalks provide a much-needed continuous path of travel for area residents. Additionally, the project improved drainage, reconstructed driveways, constructed ADA curb ramps, replaced or relocated trees, repaved streets, and constructed 39 back-in angled parking spots (on Magnolia Avenue) which were desperately needed in this compact area. There was a dire lack of parking in the residential areas of Old Town and adding parking was a request from the community and direction from City Council.
